Pacific Northwest Trip: Last Stop Seattle

We spent only a few days in Seattle and stuck to visiting typical tourist areas. We wandered Seattle Center, doing the Space Needle, Monorail, and some Museums. We also saw the extensive collection of aircraft at the Museum of Flight. We wanted to but did not have time to take a ferry to one of the Puget Sound islands.

Tweedes Cafe

Driving from Yakima to Seattle we made a couple of stops along the way. One was this cafe. Little did we know this was at one time a Twin Peaks TV show location.

Another Space Needle View of Seattle

This picture looks toward Lake Union. The Space Needle, situated in Seattle Center, houses several museums. We only visited a couple of the Museums.

Pop Museum Terminator Exhibit showing terminator jacket, terminator skulls and the terminator arm.

In addition to the museum's Nirvana and Electric Guitar exhibits, there was a variety of Sci-Fi and Horror movie props, including the Terminator.

Chihuly abstract Blue Glass hanging sculpture.

Blue Glass Hanging

This exhibit was one of many suspended from the ceiling. It could be a fantastical blue chandelier, but it is too large for my entry hall or dining room.

Plant shaped glass sculptures surrounded by garden plants.

Garden Glass in a Garden

Outside the exhibit halls is the garden, where real plants and glass coexist. This image shows a very organic-looking glass statue.

Misty Snoqualmie Falls with rocks and mountain vegetation on each side.

Snoqualmie Falls

This was another stop on the way to Seattle. The 270-foot-high falls can be viewed from various points in the 2-acre park. On that day, it was quite misty.

The Pop Culture Museum

From above, the Pop Culture Museum appears to be quite eclectic, and visiting inside confirms it.

Chihuly Garden and Glass

Chihuly showcases hundreds of colorful, intricate, and predominantly abstract glass sculptures, many displayed inside the museum and even more in the outdoor garden.

Two boats with many colorful Glass Ball sculptures sitting inside each boat

Boat with Colorful Glass Balls

If only I could offer an insightful interpretation of any artwork. To me, this resembles a collection of colorful beach balls and amoebas taking a ride in boats.

Museum of Flight - SR-71

The next day, a change of pace, we visited the Museum of Flight. This extensive collection of planes and rockets rivals the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center.

An iconic tourist destination, the views from the tower are stunning. While it may be viewed as a tourist trap by some, we enjoyed trying to identify the sights as it rotated.

Pop Museum Laika Studio Exhibit

The Museum of Pop Culture features an eclectic mix of movie and music exhibits. One standout exhibit was Laika Studios, which showcased various stop-motion models.

Chihuly Vines of Orange Flowers

We have too many photos to show on this page, but here are four. The previous one was an ocean theme, and this one is a huge display of rust-orange-colored flower vines.

Colorful glass sculptures on display in a black room.

A Garden of Color Glass

This exhibit occupies much of a large room and resembles an underwater garden filled with colorful glass plants.

Museum of Flight - B-17

There are so many notable aircraft on display. I only include two iconic aircraft: the SR-71, the coolest-looking aircraft, and the B-17, the most famous bomber of WWII.
